Creating Oral Health Care Superheroes #MC

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for LISTERINE. I received samples for this review and a promotional item to thank me for participating.

Our kids are pretty obsessed superheroes so we try to use that theme when encouraging them on good habits. We want to make sure our kids are eating healthy so their superhero bodies are growing strong and we want them to have superhero attitudes which for us means being super kind and friendly to others and trying to create happy times with happy attitudes. Like most families we want our kids to have "heroic habits". So when it comes to oral hygiene we use that same principle and let our kids know that part of being a superhero is also having awesome healthy and strong teeth. This is point really hits close to me because on my side of the family we have a long history of bad dental genetics and we are prone to cavities and other issues, so I knew that I wanted it to be different with my kids and I wanted them to have super healthy teeth. With that in mind our kiddos know that a huge part of their "superhero responsibilities" includes keeping their teeth healthy and clean. Normally that just entails brushing their teeth for two minutes, but we recently started to use LISTERINE SMART RINSE and at first I was concerned if my kids would even use it or like it, and it turns out they LOVE it! They beg to be able to use it every night and love swooshing it around in their mouths. Be sure to grab some next time you are at the store, your kids will love it!

My husband and I have also "upped" our superhero tooth cleaning skills by flossing more often. This is something I have always had an issue doing, I don't know why, but I have just always hated flossing. I do understand how important it is though... it is really embarrassing for me to tell people this but when I was younger I lost two of my back teeth due to poor oral health care and bad genetics. And while I can't do anything about genetics I can do a lot more about my oral health care routine and I can make sure I am doing what I need to do so I don't lose any more teeth. This includes flossing which I personally love using the flosser, I feel it makes it a little easier to floss and ease makes me actually do it and not put it off! And speaking of easy... you can also buy all of your favorite LISTERINE products from the comfort of your own home!

After flossing and brushing the last step of our "heroic oral health habits" is to use mouthwash! Now, as you can tell from the pics above my kids absolutely love this step and so do I! I love feeling like my mouth is completely clean and I don't have any lingering food pieces left in my mouth. You can also use LISTERINE HEALTHY WHITE to help get those pearly whites you want!

So do you think your family is  ready to be oral health care superheros? What do you use or do with your kids to enforce good oral hygiene? Let us know!

Pediatric Smiles of Orem Review

Monday, February 17, 2014

I have a confession to make. I hate going to the dentist. Just the thought of going makes me ill. Part of the problem would have to be that due to being in a state of constant magnesium deficiency (due to a genetic heart condition) I have always had bad teeth no matter how hard I try to take care of them. The other reason would just have to be that I have had some crummy dentist experiences in my life that have led to more than one nightmare.

Having said that, maybe you can understand why I have procrastinated so long in taking my children to have their teeth checked out. I have two children (one will be 4 next month and one will be 3 in the beginning of May) and until this last week they have never gone to the dentist.

With our children being so young (and wiggly) I didn’t think there was a need to take them in yet. That is until I saw some signs of early tooth decay on my sons teeth one night after brushing his teeth. I was shocked. My husband and I have always been careful to make sure that our children eat healthy meals. We limit the amount of sweets they eat (including fruit snacks.) As for drink soda is not allowed, and juice is a rare treat. That’s right in our house we drink mainly water, and vitamin D Milk. In addition to their diet we have made sure that our children’s teeth are brushed every night (since their first tooth popped out.) After briefly freaking out we decided (despite my personal fears) that it was time to take our children to a dentist.

After asking a lot of friends and doing a little looking around, we decided to take our kids to Pediatric Smiles of Orem. Let me tell you how glad I am that we did. The first thing I noticed upon entering their office was how child friendly the place was. My daughter was excited to see a coloring book and crayons on the table; my son was entranced by the fish tank and later the table with the wood train set.  It was nice to see them happily distracted while I filled out the official paperwork.

When it came time for us to go back they suggest that I have my daughter (the almost 4 year old) get her teeth cleaned first to show her younger brother everything would be ok. The dental assistant was friendly and patient as she explained to my daughter all the tools she was going to use and what she was going to use. Then a movie was started on a tv mounted on the ceiling so my daughter could watch (and listen thanks to some nifty headphones) while they cleaned her teeth. My daughter was so at ease they had no problem working on her.

When it came time for my son he did great for the cleaning but I knew he would get fussy when they did the exam, but I needn’t have worried. After I voiced my concerns they decided to have his teeth checked out by Dr. Shepherd immediately after his cleaning so he could be in and out as quick as possible and then we would have Dr. Shepherd check out my daughter’s teeth.

Dr. Shepherd and his staff were totally prepared and knew just how to talk and hold my children while doing their job that I was seriously impressed. Unfortunately, both of my children had tooth decay on their teeth (cringe). I had a lot of questions (mainly how could this happen???) Dr. Shepherd was patient and informative and soon I felt much better. He explained that their main goal at Pediatric Smiles was to help parents PREVENT teeth decay in their children so they wont have to come in to get work done. However when work is needed, they always strive for a good experience for parents and children as well as quality work.  We talked about my options and then quickly set up a plan of action for both of my children’s teeth.

Next week I get to take my daughter back to have her teeth officially worked on, but with how well they handled my children a few days ago, I am way less stressed then I would otherwise be. My daughter is actually looking forward to going back. Although, this excitement to go back might be due in part with the fact that after the cleaning and exam, my children were each given a balloon and little prize (as well as a tooth brush, tooth paste, and floss.) for good behavior.

If you are looking for a great pediatric dentist (in Utah County) for your children I highly recommend Pediatric Smiles in Orem, Utah. Your children will love them and so will you.

*Part 2* Revolutionalizing The Perfect Fit - #JOCKEYbra

Saturday, July 13, 2013

Did you know that you are probably wearing a torture device right now?

Ok... that might be a bit of an over exaggeration, but I can guarantee (unless you have visited Jockey) that you probably are wearing a bra that pinches, digs into your skin or just doesn't fit right.

You want to know how I know that? Because a whopping 85% of women are wearing the wrong size!

The worst part? It doesn't have to be that way!! Check out here what Jockey has done to totally revolutionize finding the perfect bra.

Today I want to move on and show you my amazing new bra! I chose the Tailored Contour Bra, and I love it!!

Here are the 4 (trust me there are more, I could go on all day! lol) top reasons I am in love with my Jockey Bra:

1. I love the way the front looks. It's sexy, flattering and yet still modest. It provides perfect coverage, and still looks great!

2. It has a 3-D contoured resin that is built-in to cup and positions the breast for ultimate comfort and support; replacing uncomfortable underwires!!

Can I get a hallelujah for no more underwires?!

3. I love that it is designed so the straps don't keep slipping and falling.

4. I love the design! So simple and yet sexy! I love the infinity jewel straps, they look so nice!

Check out my video to see a better look at what makes Jockey the only place you want to go for your next bra:

YES FINALLY! Revolutionalizing The Perfect Fit - #JOCKEYbra

Monday, July 1, 2013

I bet if all the Mamas Spot readers were in one room together, and I asked you to put your hand up if you have had issues finding a good fitting bra,

I would get every hand in the room up.(including my own Smile)

Unfortunately this is always an issue that has plagued women.

Now it's not like it's the end of the world if you walk around in a bra that doesn't fit completely, but who wants to walk around uncomfortable all day?

A staggering 85% of women are wearing bras that don't fit properly.

I don't know about you, but I have enough issues though the day, I don't need to spend half my day tugging and pulling at my bra as it digs into me.

Or better yet I got a bra once that was way too big and I had a crease right down the middle on both sides. Laughing

It was enough of an issue that my husband even noticed and he kept asking me "what's wrong with your bra?"

So when Jockey sent me a Fit Kit, I said "YES FINALLY!" finally someone realized what it takes to get the right fit.

Using a measuring tape to measure your cup size is utterly pointless.

If you are a mom like me then you probably have a little sagging (it's ok to admit) it's part of being a mom.

Unfortunately though if you try to measure your beautiful used milk jugs with a measuring tape, you won't get all of them into the measurement.

That is why I love what Jockey has done and I can't believe it had taken this long to get an accurate measurement of cup size!

As part of the Fit Kit you will get these cups with numbers on them. If you read the directions it will tel you to pour your breast into the cup.

When I read "pour" I laughed for a second, I have never been asked to pour my breast into something before. lol

I went ahead and did it and if you are really thinking about this right now you too will realize that this is the absolute best way to do this.

This is the best way to accurately measure every part of your breast, not just one part of it.

Once you are done "pouring" you will have your right number and you can then use the measuring tape around your back and under your bust.

Then you can take those numbers over to order your bra and in 5-7 business days you will have the most comfortable, best fitting bra you have ever owned!

I challenge you to give this a try and Jockey has a love at first fit guarantee, they guarantee that you will love the way you look and feel, or your money back!

You can head over here to order your fit kit, they ask for $19.95 (they need to know you are serious Smile) but they will send you a $20 credit with your kit to use on your new bra!

So essentially you are just putting $20 towards you new amazing bra!

Hurry and grab yours today so you won't be part of the digging, pinching, pulling and second guessing club ever again.

*Be sure to stay tuned to find out if I liked my Jockey Bra.

About Mamas Spot

We are a family of four that left it all behind to go travel the world. No, literally we left it all. We sold all of our possessions, packed what we could into four suitcases and said goodbye to suburban life. All we own is now pulled behind us as we travel to new and exciting destinations. Showing our kids the world and teaching them about new cultures, food, and ways of life is now our 9-5.

We love watching our kids learn, and learning along side them. Together we have now explored many new countries, visited family on the other side of the world, and made memories that will last a lifetime.

Welcome to our journey!
