Great Mall Trip!

February 2011

Beginner

So I went to the mall today to get all of the goodies I told you about in my earlier post (except I forgot the Victoria Secret & Orange Julius) I also signed up a little bit ago for the Bath and Body Works LUV BBW Club. Which gets you free items on the Thursday of your choice each month from January 1, 2011 – May 31, 2011. So I got a small lotion, body wash and spray for free! Unfortunately you can't sign up for it anymore hopefully they will do it again.

My husband got the free chicken dish from Panda Express and he liked it and I got a BOGO pretzel.

We had a nice (really cheap) little night out and we only paid $2.29 (for the pretzels).

It really pays to plan when you go out to look for coupons to use. You will be amazed at how much cheaper your outing can be!

Great kids activity for cheap! Homemade Finger-Paint

February 2011

Easy

My little girl did finger painting for the first time today, now that she's 2 (I'm not sure why it took us so long to get around to doing this). Unfortunately I have the only toddler in the world who hates having her hands messy which normally comes in handy a lot, but not when it comes to finger painting. So it took some persuasion, but after about 15 min. she started to realize it might be fun (although she preferred a paint brush) This ended up being a fun and very cheap activity. If you want to make your own finger paint for a lot cheaper than store bought here are two recipes:

Homemade Finger paint Recipes

Easy finger paint

1 cup Flour
1 cup Water
1/4 cup soap
A couple of drops of Food Coloring, you can also use Kool-aid I used one packet.

Directions:

Mix all items until there are no lumps and paint is smooth. Keep sealed in an airtight container and refrigerate.

You can divide the batch up into smaller amounts and use a different color of food coloring for each batch.

Cornstarch finger paint

3 cups water
1 cup cornstarch
food coloring

Directions:

In a medium saucepan, bring water to a boil.  Dissolve cornstarch in a separate bowl with water.   Remove boiling water from heat and add cornstarch mixture.  Return to heat, stirring constantly.  Boil until the mixture is clear and thick (about 1 minute).  Remove from heat.

As the mixture is cooling, divide into separate bowls and add food coloring.

And you can always do the easy & yummy pudding finger paint

Directions: Just make a package of chocolate pudding. (kids really love this one) and they can eat as much as they want.

Mamas Spotlight: Look What I did today!

January 2011

So... Sorry I was gone for a little bit today, but I had to go see what Pier One Imports had. I probably went overboard, but it was so hard to resist! Almost everything was under $1.00! It was all %90 off and I spent $22.00 total and got 29 items. There were quite a few other people there and we all had big smiles on our faces!

I got about 9 candles (I love candles). I am going to save it all and use some of it for gifts next year. I love the wicker snowmen they were only $.90, unfortunately the pictures don't do it justice. If you want to get in on the fun I would hurry, I'm sure they will be sold out soon!

Mamas Tip: This kind of shopping (stockpiling) is how you can save a ton of money throughout the year. If you stock up on items you need (or want) when you find them really cheap you won't have to pay full price down the road.

Mail: Great Coupons

January 2011

Beginner

I love checking the mail (as long as it isn't only bills)! Today I got a little booklet of Burger King coupons and a coupon for a free bag of cat food!

The Burger King book is full of BOGO coupons. I try to eat at home as often as possible, but sometimes it is necessary to get something while you are out; and you might as well get it cheaper.

Mamas Tip: You can get on a mailing list for most restaurants by visiting their website and signing up.

I also got a coupon for a free bag of Purina One cat food. This was a free deal on their Facebook Page a few weeks ago.

Mamas Tip: If you like a certain product or company look for their Facebook page, most companies do promotions on a fairly regular basis.
