Recently, we decided that it was time for our kids to finally experience the Big Apple!  My husband and I had been many times, but this was their first experience, and I couldn’t wait to see NYC through their eyes. For a child, going from a small town to the big city is a huge change, and I knew it would be fascinating for them. New York City isn’t exactly what I would consider kid friendly, but it still has a lot to offer the young ones. From huge parks to amazingly tall buildings, kids are sure to be captivated by this impressive city.

If you are planning a trip to NYC, you may be surprised to find out that your hotel options don’t end in the city. In fact, one of the best hotels lies over the Hudson River in New Jersey. I am not a huge camper, but I do believe when you stay in the mountains that the more it feels like a cabin or has a mountain feel the better. I enjoy soaking in the mountain air in a place that feels like it belongs in the mountains. So when we recently stayed at The Arnold Meadowmont Lodge, it was perfect! From the outside it looks like a typical mountain motel, but once inside you will find a warm inviting room with a cabin feel.

The Best Mexican Food In An Unlikely Place - El Vaquero

To be honest when we headed to Calaveras County I was expecting to find a Mexican restaurant in the mountains, let alone one that was super packed. I am a firm believer that locals know what's best, and if you follow the locals in Arnold they will take you to El Vaquero. Nestled in an unassuming spot with the forest as a background you will find some of the best food around. It’s even argued that it's some of the best Mexican food you will find in Cali (my vote is yes).

When you plan a family vacation do you make time available to experience new adventures?  I think most parents consider vacations as a time to relax, but vacations also provide us with time to squeeze in a little adventure too. Chances are you won’t remember the last time you relaxed by the hotel pool. What you will remember is the time you went zip-lining or snowmobiling. So when we were approached by BEAR VALLEY SNOWMOBILE, we knew it was an adventure we couldn’t refuse.

About Mamas Spot

We are a family of four that left it all behind to go travel the world. No, literally we left it all. We sold all of our possessions, packed what we could into four suitcases and said goodbye to suburban life. All we own is now pulled behind us as we travel to new and exciting destinations. Showing our kids the world and teaching them about new cultures, food, and ways of life is now our 9-5.

We love watching our kids learn, and learning along side them. Together we have now explored many new countries, visited family on the other side of the world, and made memories that will last a lifetime.

Welcome to our journey!
