Edinburgh has many accommodation options, but none quite like The Principal Hotel. It can be difficult to find the perfect family friendly and more importantly kid friendly luxury accommodations, but The Principal goes above and beyond for family travelers.
As soon as we arrived I knew staying with The Principal was going to be a fantastic experience. The property is located right in the heart of Edinburgh and you can even walk to all the main attractions and sites. We parked our car and never even went back to it until our stay was done. It was great to be able to be within walking distance of everything!
(Can you imagine a better Scottish welcome? I know I can't!)
The Principal Hotel is a four star hotel that feels like a five star. The service is impeccable and everyone is happy to greet you upon your arrival.
We had the “Happy Families” room package which includes: an extra bed, organic fruit chews, a cuddly fox and a bath frog to take home, and a fluffy, junior-sized bathrobe; and for 12-15-year-olds, a tuck box of retro treats and fizzy pop.
The kids were on cloud nine when they saw all the amazing goodies in the room. It made them feel like not just guests, but truly wanted guests.
The Principal also boasts two other amazing establishments that are connected to the hotel; The Printing Press and Burr & Co.
The Printing Press is an amazing restaurant that is open for any meal. I would highly recommend their breakfast (which you can arrange with the hotel). We also had dinner at The Printing Press and it was amazing. I can’t say enough good things about the grilled goat cheese salad, it was by far one of the best salads I have had and I can’t wait to try it again!
They also have a children’s afternoon tea that can’t be missed!
I think every hotel should have a coffee house attached, right?! Burr & Co. is a delightful addition to the Principal Hotel and is there for all your coffee needs. You can also enjoy teas, cakes and all sorts of goodies.
The kids loved the personalization to our room and how welcome it made them feel, but my favorite part of the room was definitely the view. From the large windows spanning across the wall you can look out over all of Edinburgh. The sunsets were gorgeous and I can’t think of a better way to end the night than enjoying a delicious meal at The printing Press and them heading up to the room to soak in the sunset. My husband loved the fact that the Principal boasts superfast Wi-Fi with a maximum bandwidth of 100MB. For anyone planning on getting a bit of work done while staying at the Principal will be thoroughly happy with the internet available!
