Today may seem like a normal Saturday, but it’s not! Today is Family Volunteer Day! I posted about what our family does to give back to our community here. Family Volunteer Day is a day of service that celebrates the power of families that work together and help their communities. Family Volunteer Day is held the Saturday before Thanksgiving to really help kick off the holiday spirit of giving. This year we did some volunteering before Family Volunteer day and today we decided to keep our volunteering really close to home and help out our community directly. We went around the neighborhood cleaning up neighbor’s yards. We have some elderly neighbors that we know it’s too difficult for them to get out and clean up their yard of all the trash that blows through.
I recently was introduced to an amazing tool called generationOn. It’s a website that helps kids and teens get involved in their communities and thinking of ways they can give back. generationOn also provides resources that will help instill a sense of compassion and foster a sense of civic responsibility that will carry through your children’s lives.

It gets incredibly windy where we live and trash will end up getting in a lot of yards. Walking around making our neighborhood better only brings us closer as a family and helps my kids understand why it’s so important to care for your community.
