Knowledge Is Power!

If I asked you to describe to me what to look for when you get an oil change, would you get pass saying "um" or "I don't know"?

Something tells me you would be part of the majority of women just like me, that are completely clueless when it comes to getting an oil change.

We recently drove over 5000 miles from Utah to Florida and back, this would have been a great time for me to have all the information I needed.

Unfortunately I didn't then, but I do now!

I think as women (as much as we don't want to admit it) figure car stuff is for the guys. (if you aren't like this, good for you!)

Sometimes the guys are too busy though and we find ourselves taking the car in ourselves.

I would love to ask you another question... how do you feel when you talk to a mechanic?

Do you feel they give you all the information you need? Do they treat you just like they would your significant other?

Now I am not here to pick on mechanics, but there have only been handful of times that I feel I am not just being treated wrong.

That is why knowledge is power!

I am here today to give you the knowledge you need to get your oil changed, something we all need to get for our cars on a fairly regular basis.

Motor Oil Matters (MOM) is the American Petroleum Institute’s (API) new program for licensing motor oil distributors and oil change locations.

MOM has one main goal: to make sure that consumers receive high-quality oil.

This is accomplished by maintaining a secure chain-of-custody for motor oil from the marketer all the way to the vehicle.

The MOM mark will help identify distributors and oil change locations committed to providing motor oil meeting the performance standard recommended by most vehicle and engine manufacturers.

Everyone wants high quality, but we aren't all getting it.

The program will hold oil distributors and oil change locations accountable if they’re not up to MOM standards. (Isn't that awesome!)

So you now have someone on your side, someone looking out for you making sure you not only get what's right for your vehicle, but the highest quality as well.

When choosing oil for your vehicle, you should always look or ask for API-licensed oil. API has made it easy to find these oils: licensed oils display one or both of the API motor oil quality marks—the API Service Symbol “Donut” and the Certification Mark “Starburst.” These marks are part of API’s Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System (EOLCS), a voluntary licensing and certification program that authorizes engine oil marketers meeting API requirements to display the API quality marks.
